Red Stick German Shepherd Rescue
Sophie is a beautiful, 4-year-old, German Shepherd mix. We think she's got a touch of another slender, energetic herding-type breed in her -- maybe Australian Shepherd.
Sophie has always known love and good care. She was born on 7/29/2014 to a German Shepherd mama who had her litter in a public shelter. Sophie and her littermates were raised by a wonderful rescue foster family who kept them healthy, socialized them well, and helped the pups to pick up their mama's excellent temperament. They were all adopted as babies, but Sophie recently had to come back to the rescue through no fault of her own when her former owner moved and could not take her with him. We've promised Sophie that she'll win the lottery one more time, and find another family that will love her just as much as the owner who couldn't keep her.
Sophie is friendly, confident, and loving. She gets along well with other dogs, but she seems to think all the affection from humans and toys belong to her. Sophie had previously been an "only dog" so the idea of sharing is new to her. She's learning to adapt and makes excellent progress with the other dog in her foster home, but we think she might be happiest with a family where she could be the only princess of home.
She would love to be adopted by an active person or family. She's an energetic adult and needs daily exercise. She's a good running partner and is enthusiastic about participating in whatever you want to do. She loves toys and wants to be right next to her people.
She's already house trained and has good house manners. She's a very smart dog who would thrive in a good training class, as she loves to learn new things.
She's been kept on heartworm prevention since puppyhood, and she's healthy, up-to-date on on preventive care, and ready for her forever home.
