Zimri appears to be a German Shepherd mix. Our vet estimates he's about a year old. While his pedigree may be mixed, his heart is pure gold. He tested negative for heartworms.

Every once in a while, there's a dog in a shelter who's so special that a whole army of compassionate people work to save its life -- and Zimri's one of those dogs. We first heard of him when our vet, Dr. Kristen at Cypress Lake told us about meeting him. Zimri already was a volunteer favorite at the Ascension Parish shelter -- it's easy to understand why.

Even in the shelter, he had a winning personality and made lots of friends. That's astonishing, as he was very sick -- he had lost much of his hair, and he was suffering from a terrible skin infection. He was itchy and hurting. Despite his troubles, his personality shined through.

Fortunately, his skin infection was very treatable. Thanks to the generous donations of his supporters, we were able to get him the treatment he needed. With good care from Dr. Kristen, he has made a complete recovery.

He reminds us of the transformative power of a loving foster home. He came to us slumped and dejected, and he's now proud and noble.

He gets along very well with the other dogs in his foster home, large and small. He loves to run and play with other dogs. He's energetic in his play. He's already learning some basic obedience and is kennel trained.

He is currently living with a young child, and he's been very good with all the people he's met in his foster home. He's been very accommodating and loving with his foster family, but it's time for him to find a forever-family of his own.
